My eldest is starting High School! 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
She is starting at Thomas Carr College this friday ~ we have bought everything she needs and she is really excited about going even though there is only one other girl going there from her primary school.

The booklist only cost me around $250 because text books are supplied by the school - fees are $3550 not inc the $250 building levy - that includes the camp and all excursions so apparently you do not have to pay for anything else the entire year (we will see!).

I do not think any of the public high schools are any good around here so wanted her to go private - she is the kind of student who will do well but needs to be pushed along....if left to her own devices she wouldn't do any school work at all.

Once she has started I will update on what I think of the school but I think all she be good - I researched this extensivly!

Wow -what a big moment for you and your daughter!

Somebody asked me which High School I would send my son to and I felt ill just thinking about it. We spent so much time and energy choosing the primary school, I need a couple of years break at least before I start thinking about choosing another school!!

All the best for your daughter on her first day.

Annabel.

Hi mumto5,
I hope your daughter enjoys her first day on friday.
My daughter started high school today, she started at Warragul Regional College, We did enrol her at Marist Sion College, but she was so upset that none of her friends were going there, we felt that her input was important and asked her reasonings of why she didnt want to go to Marist, her reasons were justified so we changed her to the local secondary college. I just hope we have made the right decision. We dont really have a choice in our town, one public secondary school and two private schools.
My daughter does very well will all aspects of schooling so I dont think that we will have any problems with that area. Her biggest hiccup would be that her two older brothers went there and they have a reputation , she has already told a couple of teachers that she is nothing like her brothers.
The cost of books and uniforms were $600 for books and about $500 for full uniform.
Annabel, my advise to you would be go to all the schools open days, at least two years before your son starts high school, you can usually form an opinion then, weeding out the schools you dont like. When your son gets to grade 6 it will make it easier.

Hi Kim,

Yeah I think them actually wanting to go to the school is half the battle - my DD actually chose the school as I have a few friends who I work with (ages 18-21) who went there and Caitlin really looks up tp a lot of them and she has spoken to them about the school and has heard nothing but great things. We went to 2 open days and an orientation day and she loved every minute of it.

BTW I also have one starting prep tomorrow as well!

Rach,
boy, dont you have a emotional day tomorrow and friday , Is Caitlin your eldest? I hope Jess comes home today and says that she had a great day, Matt (her older brother) was teasing her about what 'happens' once you get to high school, but Jess is smart enough to see that her was stirring her up (well I hope so anyway)

Hi Rach,
Jess had an 'awesome' day today- according to her, she said it was fantastic, already got lots of homework, which she has already completed (its not due till monday), I hope she keeps this attitude up, she loved primary school, she wouldnt have a day off school unless she really had to, so hopefully she will stay the samefor high school.
Dont forget the camera tomorrow and friday to take pics of the kids.
Annabel... can we post pics of our kids?
