When did you find out about classes for 2008? 7 Months ago
We were told on the last day of school for 2007. The (unofficial!) word is that it is done like this is to prevent parents from storming the office with complaints about which class their child has been placed in. We weren't given any written information about the class -not even the teacher's name on a piece of paper, and I have no idea which classroom ds will be in. I can't say I'm thrilled about any of this and am wondering how the system works at other schools?

the last day of school last year, the lists were on the class room doors with teachers names and all. as well as haydens new teacher coming to their class and introducing herself to the students she will have this year. i was pleasantly suprised that it was so organised.

At my little sisters school all kids go to their old classes for the first week, to allow for new kids to arrive etc before the official classes are made.

Having a list on the door is a good way of doing it, although I would prefer every child got a list to take home. We had to quiz our kids about who their teacher would be, and some of us had to get the answers from our kids' friends! Ds finds remembering names quite a challenge (wonder where he got that from ), and over summer I would liked to have been able to talk about the kids who would be in his class as a way of preparing him for the year.

All the kids found out two days before they finished school last year, we also received a piece of paper with all the classes and teachers names on it and what room, how many kids in each class room (but no names of course).
We were sent home a notice in November asking the parents if they have any concerns about teachers and other students to return the notice with the names of kids you didnt want your child in with and reasonings, But they had to be very strong reasons. I have only done this once when my daugher was in prep, going into grade one, (a little boy was a thug )The school strongly agreed.

Kim it sounds as though your school has things well organised!

I think it would have been nice to find out a couple of days before the end of term. I figure they must make mistakes sometimes with class placements, and parents who have genuine concerns have to wait the entire summer to be able to take up the issue with the school.

I'm also impatient

At my kids school they dont post class lists until the week before school starts. For eg, school starts next Monday, and today (Thursday prior) theythe school opened for 2 hours so parents could (1) pay fee's (2) collect school stationary orders and (3) view the class lists.

Millipede is this because they don't have the classes sorted until then, or is it just to keep you in suspense over summer?! I guess if you find out just before school starts then you can at least approach the school about any problems pretty quickly after you find out.

My DS school class list is sent home with the end of year report along with the name of next years teacher and classroom number! So we now know where my next DS' class room will be when he starts school next term!

No the class lists are drawn up when enrolments close in the Sept the year before It is so parents have less opportunity to whinge Its a bit hard to restructure class lists when school starts in 2 days time.
