Book List Costs?????? 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I am very curious to find out how much is the rest of the world paying for their booklist?(stationary items) last year, for pre primary, it was $79! this year it was $63, but even that seems like alot. do they really need 4 glue sticks, 2 clag, 12 lead pencils, 2 sets of crayon windups, 6 scrapbooks and the list goes on...... are our kids really using all of what we buy, or are the kids whos parents dont supply items using the extras, i dont think we need to supply???? oh, and is it right for a school to ask parents to supply handwash?????? is soap not something that is a standard thing that schools should have in abundance?????

I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see what fees we need to pay this year. There were way too many things going on this time last year for me to remember! I know the school provides everything, and we pay a levy as part of the school fees. The fees themselves aren't that much (I *think* they were $200 all up), so I can't imagine the stationary would add up to much.

Do you have to provide the items, or just pay for them? I know part of the reasoning behind the school providing them is that they can source things much cheaper than we can.

i think the handwash is just one more area where the school tries to cut costs. Our school asks us to each provide a box of tissues. I'm quite happy to do this as it's a small cost for me compared to the saving the school makes by not having to supply 200 boxes of tissues each year. I would hope that people in financial difficulty would not have to provide such items though.

its a public school and we have about $100 worth of fees to pay as well. we are given the book list and can order through a supplier or source them ourselves. it just seems like an awful lot of stuff to supply. i am rationing it this year, so when he runs out, i will give him another. i think it will be much easier to keep track and know that hes getting what i payed for.

i wouldnt mind providing tissues, that seems reasonable. we have been asked to supply a 250ml pump handwash and a 500ml refill to go with it. i dunno, i just think they ask cos most of us will oblige, but this year, im not.

I agree with you, the pump pack plus the refill is pushing the relationship It also seems a bit silly since the school should surely be able to buy bulk handwash a lot cheaper than it costs all the parents to buy the individual packs.

At our school all the stationary is communal, so I would have no way of knowing whether the stuff we pay for is being used (I'm not even sure exactly what is bought). I guess i just trust the school on this.

My kids go to a public school and there is no real book list - just a note that says they will need a ruler, pencil case, textas etc - They do not need any of that until they get to grade 4, before grade 4 everything is supplied by the school. I pay $80 a year in school fees (each). Every year we do have to supply soft soap refill, a sponge and a box of tissues but this year we also have to supply 4 tennis balls (no idea why) I do not think this is unreasonable at all.

We pay $250 per year, that is for booklist, photocopy levy, building fund, swimming and excursions (not including camps),Melissa's bookilst(grade 4) contained 2 writing books, 2 graph books, a scrapbook, 6 blue pens, 6 red pens, 6 greyleads, 12 pencils, 12 texta's, a ruler and a pencil case. (the pack was officially $37.00) , I think that I could have baught it cheaper from officeworks.
