NAPLAN 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Did anyone's child do the NAPLAN tests this year?
(I keep wanting to read it as napalm)
My ds is accelerated into year 3, however disaster struck, yesterday when he was supposed to do two of them he was sick (genuinely sick would you believe, not even faking!!) and today he had a long standing appointment, much awaited, to get his plaster off his broken arm after being in plaster for 2 months (and 3 operations but that is another story).
So he has to do three tests this afternoon!!! And then maths tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see the data and compare states results when they come out.
Out of interest, does anyone know when the results are expected?

We still have a couple of years before we get to this kind of testing and I know very little about it. Do you get to see your child's results?

How did your son going sitting all the tests in the one day? And how is he enjoying having his plaster off?!!

Annabel.

Hi Annabel,
Yes the child's results are reported to the parents as a graph comparing their performance with others in their grade across Australia. The tests are done in years 3,5,7, and 9. The kids are tested on reading, language, maths and writing. I'm interested as this is the first year the tests have been nationalised, previously each state did their own thing. Data comparing states results will be really interesting!

I think he was OK with having the tests stacked, he ended up doing four tests in two days but the tests are quite short.

With his plaster off, he is so funny; he still walks around holding his elbow at 90 degrees. He is very sensitive to physical sensations (if anyone is are recognising their child here and has not heard of Dabrowski's hypersensitivities, have a look!) and we embarrassingly had to hold him down to get the 6 week old stinky steristrips off. Uuugh. (How did your son rebreak his arm within minutes of his plaster being removed madam? Ummm...)

Re:NAPLAN 3 Months ago
Hi, my son also finished NAPLAN (Year 3) earlier this month.

The results are due out at the end of August.

Some of my son's classmates were stressed out by the tests (not to mention their mums). One kid threw up and two cried.

Nevertheless, I think it is a good thing, having their stage of learning benchmarked in the middle of the primary years, so something can be done to address any weaknesses before it becomes a bit too late. Either the kids did well and get duly recognised, or there is some room for improvement to work on in the next two years. All good.
